The Sumaco Napo Galeras National Park – PNSNG is one of the protected areas of the Sumaco National Biosphere System – RBS. The PNSNG was created in 1994 and is considered one of the most outstanding Wilder Ness areas in Ecuador. The BSR was declared by UNESCO, after a participatory process, and covers an area of one millón hectáreas; it includes the provinces of Napo, Orellana and Sucumbíos, covering 8% of the Amazon región. The core of the area belongs to the Sumaco National Park of the Ecuadorian Protected Areas System. The BSR covers seven bioclimatic floors, ranging from humid tropical at 600 m above sea level, to cold humid at 3,732 m above sea level.

Sumaco Volcano trekking tour for 3 nights and 4 days

Itinerary

Day 1: We will start the expedition at 09:00 am from the city of Tena, Napo province. From here, we will travel by private vehicle, for more than 2 hours, to the point of ascent.

Before starting the trekking of this expedition, our certified guide will give a brief general talk, and give some recommendations for the trek.

This first day we will hike for 5 hours to the first refuge in the El Mirador sector, where we will spend the night.

Day 2: After breakfast, we will continue trekking until we reach the third refuge, in the Pava Yacu sector, located at about 2,800 metres above sea level.

We will hike for 6 to 8 hours. Before sunset, we will have free time to take a short walk around the refuge.

We will finish the day with a comforting dinner.

Day 3: The most awaited day of the expedition is to reach the Summit of the volcano. With a trekking of 4 hours, we will reach the Summit of the volcano, where we will enjoy the beautiful landscape and the cráter.

We will start the descent to the second refuge in the Laguna sector for about 5 hours. Here we will spend the last night.

We will end the day with a comforting dinner.

Day 4: After breakfast, we will continue the descent walking for about 6 hours until we reach the point where our vehicle will pick us up.

From here, we will return to Tena, where the 4 days and 3 nights expedition will end.
