Summary of tour activities

Motor canoe trip on the Napo river, paddle canoe in the lagoon, bird watching, visit to the caiman lagoon, elaboration of handmade cocoa chocolate, wild animal reserve “Amazonico”, elaboration of pottery, extraction of pita fiber to make handicrafts, typical dance, Preparation of yucca chicha, walk in the jungle, waterfall bathing, observation of the Arapaima Gigas fish, prehistoric bird the hoatzin, Lodging in Eco-Lodge 1 night and 1 night in community, parrots and parakeets saladero, canoe paddle on the Arahuna river, demonstration of the shamán and ancestral customs, Wayusa Upina, ethno botanical garden, big tree of Ceiba Pentranda.

 

Itinerary and programme of the 2 nights and 3 days tour:

 

Day 1: Meeting point and departure of the tour will be from the central park of Prt. Misahualli at 08 and 30 am. After breakfast. From here you will start the canoe trip on the Napo River for more than 1 hour.

 

During the navigation you will enjoy the beautiful landscape of the jungle, observation of species of birds that live on the banks of the river. We arrive at the sector of the Anaconda Island, 18 km away.

 

First visit to the caiman lagoon (Caiman-Crocodilus white-eyed crocodiles). Observation of the prehistoric bird (Hoatzin-Opisthocomus Hoatzin).

 

Second visit to an organic farm of fine aroma cocoa where we learn how to elabórate the handmade chocolate and then taste it with a delicious fresh fruit salad.

 

Third visit to the rescue centre of wild animals “Amazonico” where we can meet species of the Amazonian fauna, such as: (Anaconda verde-Eunectes murinus) land turtles, species of monkeys, parrots, macaws, toucans, peccaries, (Cusumbo, Kinkajú Potos Flavus) tapir, lagoon of freshwater turtles.

 

Then we will go for lunch at Punta Ahuano:

Second tour in the afternoon: We continue by canoe to the sector of Sampedro where we will go to a lagoon to paddle canoe and observe the fish (Arapaima Gigas) species of birds and monkeys.

 

After this last activity we go by private vehicle for 35 minutes to the Eco-lodge where we spend the night.

 

The day ends with dinner.

 

Day 2: It is recommended to wake up at 06 a.m. for bird watching, take pictures in the 3 beautiful viewpoints with panoramic views of the Napo River, flowers and ornamental plants from the gardens.

 

After breakfast we will make a tour of the ethno botanical garden to see species of medicinal and psychotropic plants, timber trees and fruit trees.

 

 We continue to a family to appreciate the elaboration of pottery made of clay, extraction of pita fibre to make handicrafts.

 

Afterwards we will go for lunch at the Eco-Lodge:

In the afternoon we will continue by private vehicle for 45 minutes to the Umbuni reserve where we will walk for 1 hour to a beautiful waterfall in the middle of the jungle, here it is possible to take a refreshing bath in a natural pool.

Return by another trail to the road to continue by vehicle to the sector of Campococha where we will go by private canoe on the Arahuana river to a community where we will spend another night. The day ends with dinner.

 

Day 3: We start the day at 05:00 am. With the Guayusa upina. A woman from the community prepares the Guayusa tea and tells us about the benefits and ancestral secrets of the Guayusa tea (Ilex Guayusa).

 

Guayusa is an ancient and sacred plant that the natives of the Amazon have preserved for its antioxidant benefits and rich in caffeine more than any other tea. This mysterious plant grows in the Amazon región due to its medicinal potential with 14 types of polyphenols and feels carotenoids that are present in the leaves of the guayusa, its potential drink to delay the aging of cells, “It is the plant with more antioxidants that exists in the world, Guayusa surpasses Green tea or any other tea”, for various causes such as pollution or stress: The woman will tell us their stories and legends about the guayusa, along with the demonstration and cleaning of the wise shamán around the campfire…

 

At 06 a.m. we will go by canoe on the Arahuana river observing bird species until we arrive to a saladero / or clay lick full of sodium and minerals, a special place for parrots and parakeets food, here you will see 2 species of parakeets and 1 species of parrots, the Dusky-headed Parakeet (Cobalt-winged Parakeet) and the Blue-headed Parrot (Blue-headed Parrot).

 

After breakfast we will visit a big tree (Ceiba Pentandra) children’s school, communal meeting house. Concentration in maloca house where we will learn about the cultural identity of the Amazonian folklore, typical dance, elaboration of the chicha of yucca, and typical lunch of the Amazonian gastronomy.

Then we travel by canoe for 2 hours to the bridge of Campococha. Here we continue by private vehicle to Misahualli where the 2 nights and 3 days tour ends at around 3 to 4 p.m.

Description of the second community lodge:

 

The lodge is built by the community members, with rustic materials collected in the jungle in a conscious way. There are beds with mattresses and mosquito nets. There is no electricity, mobile phone coverage or roads. The river is the means of river transport. Eco-tourism generates work opportunities and income for the original families of the jungle. They also keep their customs and ancestral roots intact with their beliefs.
